Start by slowly brushing off any excess mascara off the fabric with a soft cloth. Be careful not to press too hard on the area as it can cause the stain to spread further. Next, spray the affected area with lukewarm water. Then, mix together 3 tablespoons baking soda and 1 tablespoon of an enzyme-based laundry detergent. Massage the mixture into the stain and allow it to sit for about an hour.
Afterwards, blot away the mixture with a damp sponge then pour some white vinegar onto the area and rinse with cold water. You can continue to repeat this process as necessary until stain is gone. Once you've removed all the mascara, blot the fabric with a dry cloth to absorb any remaining moisture.
For more stubborn stains, a mild bleach solution can be used. Start by mixing equal parts of water and white vinegar in a container. Dip a cloth or cotton ball in the solution then dab it onto stain. Allow the solution to sit for about 10 to15 minutes then rinse with cold water.
For finished coats such as leather or suede, use a cleaner specifically made for these materials. Test the cleaner in an inconspicuous spot first to ensure that it doesn’t damage the coat. Then, gently rub the cleaner onto the stain with a soft cloth. Rinse off any excess cleaner with cold water then pat area with a dry cloth.
These easy steps should help you get rid of those pesky mascara stains from your beloved coats. With this guide, you’ll be able to keep your coats looking spic and span in no time!
