Before you begin, you’ll need a few supplies in order to clean the stain. Make sure you have access to the following items:
Before you begin full-on cleaning process, it’s important to use white vinegar as a pre-treatment. This will help loosen the mascara stain and make it easier to remove. To pre-treat the stain, mix equal parts of white vinegar and warm water. Then, using an old rag, dab the area of the coat where the stain is. Let this solution sit for at least five minutes, and if necessary, reapply.
Oxygen-based bleach is often referred to as “color safe bleach”, as it won’t damage color of the coat at all. Mix equal parts of oxygen-based bleach and water, then add a small amount of dish soap. Apply the mixture to stain, being sure to completely cover it. Allow mixture to sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes.
Using an old toothbrush, gently scrub stain. Be careful not to use too much pressure, which could damage the fabric of the coat. Keep scrubbing until stain is removed. Then, rinse off the solution and allow the coat to air dry.
If the stain is still visible after first attempt, repeat steps two through four. You may need to do this several times in order to get the stain fully removed. Once the stain is gone, hang coat up to dry.
Removing mascara stains from your coat may seem like a daunting task, but it’s actually quite easy with the right supplies and a bit of elbow grease. By following the steps outlined in this guide, you can effectively remove stains from your coat and restore it to its former glory.
