Mascara stains are particularly problematical when it comes to clothing, and chinos are no exception. The good news is that there are a few easy steps that you can take to tackle these tricky stains and restore your much-loved chinos.

Step 1: Treat the Stain Immediately

As soon as you realise that you have a mascara stain on your chinos, remove them and treat the spot as soon as possible. You should then dab at stain with a damp cloth or paper towel, but make sure to avoid rubbing or scrubbing as this may spread the stain and make it more difficult to remove.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain with a Spot Cleaner

Using a specialist spot cleaner (such as Vanish Gold Oxi Action Stain Remover), dampen a small amount of pre-wash stain remover and apply it directly onto the stain. Leave this to sit for around 10 minutes before using a clean cloth to gently rub at the spot. After this step you should find that most of the stain has been lifted.

Step 3: Launder the Chinos

You should then launder affected item according to the instructions on the clothing label. Make sure to use correct amount of detergent for the size of the load, as too much or too little detergent can affect the effectiveness of the washing.

For particularly stubborn stains, you might need to repeat steps two and three once or twice more before stain disappears.
