Assemble the Tools

To begin, assemble some tools to help you in the cleaning process. This includes: laundry detergent, an old toothbrush, white vinegar, a bowl and warm water.

Prepare the Stain

Dampen the spot with a wet cloth, taking care to avoid saturating the material. Start by gently dabbing the stain in order to loosen it and lightly working detergent into the fabric using the toothbrush.

Let It Soak

Make a paste of white vinegar and warm water, then apply it to the stain and let it sit for several hours. Blot the stain with a soft cloth when finished.

Wash As Normal

Rinse the shirt with cold water, then launder as normal using the warm water setting. Hang to dry and take a look to see what needs touch-up.

Final Touches

If the stain still remains, apply a small amount of liquid stain remover directly to the area and work it in with the toothbrush. Again, rinse with cold water and launder as usual. With any luck, your shirt will have been saved from stain!
