What You Need

  • Dry cleaning detergent
  • A soft-bristled brush
  • White vinegar

Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

The first step in removing a mascara stain is to pre-treat it with a dry cleaning detergent before you attempt to launder the item. Start by sprinkling some powder detergent directly on stain and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. This will help loosen up the stain and allow it to be removed more easily.

Step 2: Scrub Away the Stain

Once you've pre-treated the stained area, use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub away the stain. Make sure you use a circular motion when doing this to ensure the stain is completely removed.

Step 3: Rinse and Repeat

Once you've scrubbed away the stain, rinse the item with cold water. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps one and two until the stain is gone.

Step 4: Rinse With Vinegar

To help remove any lingering odors or stains, mix together one part white vinegar and two parts cold water. Soak the stained area in this mixture for 10 minutes and then rinse with cold water. This should help get rid of any remaining stain or odor.
