Board shorts can get plenty of use when going out fishing or to the beach. Whether your own or someone else’s, removing mascara stains from board shorts can be a challenge. To save time and money, try these easy steps to get those pesky mascara stains out!

Things You Will Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Water
  • A clean white cloth
  • Nonabrasive sponge

Step 1: Absorb Excess Mascara

Using a clean white cloth, blot the excess mascara stain on the shorts. Doing so will help prevent the stain from setting and moving deeper into the fabric.

Step 2: Prepare the Cleaning Solution

Create a cleaning solution by mixing together equal parts white vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and water. Use an amount that will cover the stain completely. Stir until everything is well mixed.

Step 3: Apply the Solution to the Stain

Using a non-abrasive sponge, apply the cleaning solution to the stained area. Let the solution sit for several minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.

Step 4: Launder as Usual

Once the stain has been removed, you can launder the board shorts as usual, following the instructions on the care label. Hang dry or tumble dry on a low heat setting and your board shorts should be good as new.

How Do I Know If I Can Remove the Mascara Stains From My Board Shorts? You should always test the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous part of shorts before proceeding. This will help you determine if the stain can be removed without damaging the fabric.

What Happens If the Stain Remains After Following These Steps? If the stain remains after following the above steps, you may need to take the board shorts to a professional cleaner who specializes in stain removal.
