It’s all too common for makeup mishaps to happen while cooking or baking, so knowing how to fix them is essential. Mascara stains can be particularly stubborn and difficult to remove. Fortunately, with the right approach and a few household items, you can restore your apron and have it looking like new again.

Step 1: Rinse Out the Stain Immediately

As soon as you notice mascara staining your apron, fill a sink or tub with cold water. Gently swish your apron in the water for several seconds to rinse the stain, being careful not to rub the fabric too harshly. Even if the stain seems to be gone, do not put the apron in the washing machine just yet! This step is essential because it prevents the stain from becoming more set into the fabric.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain with Liquid Detergent

Once you’ve rinsed the stain, the next step is to pre-treat it with liquid detergent. Take some liquid detergent and apply it directly onto the stained area. Gently rub it in, using a clean, soft bristled brush in a circular motion. Let the detergent sit on the stain for about 15 minutes to help break down the mascara particles.

Step 3: Use a Stain Remover

If the stain is still visible after pre-treating with detergent, the next step is to use a stain remover. A stain remover is specially formulated for removing tough stains and is available in both spray and gel form. Spray or apply the product directly onto the stained area and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then, gently rub the stain with a brush and rinse with cold water.

Step 4: Wash in the Washing Machine

Once you’ve removed the stain as best as you can, the final step is to wash the apron in the washing machine. Make sure to set the machine on a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild detergent. Hang the apron up to air dry after washing and avoid using a dryer to prevent the stain from setting in further.

With these four easy steps, you can easily remove mascara stains from your apron and have it looking like new again. Do keep in mind that permanent colors may require special care, so it’s best to consult a professional for advice.
