What You'll Need:
- Soft cloths of different textures
- Mild detergent or soap
- Sponge
- Baking soda
- Bowl with warm water
Step 1: Blot the Stain
Take a soft cloth and blot the mascara stain. Do not rub or scrub as this will only make the stain worse. Blot as much of the excess mascara off the accessory as you can before moving on to the next step.
Step 2: Make a Cleaning Solution
Mix a few drops of mild detergent or soap with some warm water in a bowl. Stir solution until it bubbles. Then, take a sponge and dip it in the bowl. Squeeze the sponge to make sure that it does not drip.
Step 3: Apply the Cleaning Solution
Gently dab the sponge onto mascara stained area. Make sure not to rub it onto the fabric of the accessory. Keep dabbing until most of the remaining mascara has been removed.
Step 4: Rinse
Rinse the affected area with water and a soft cloth. Make sure to remove all of the cleaning solution from accessory.
Step 5: Treat Tough Stains
If the stain is still visible after you have followed previous steps, mix some baking soda and warm water together in a bowl. Using a soft cloth, apply paste directly onto the stained area and gently scrub. After scrubbing, rinse the area with clean water.
TIPS:
- Always test the cleaning solution on a small, unseen part of the fabric to make sure there won't be any discoloration.
- For tough stains, you may need to repeat the steps multiple times.
- Do not scrub too harshly as this could damage the fabric.
