Before you begin the wash process, it’s important to remove as much of the marker stain as possible. Take a clean cloth and blot gently at the stain until it is no longer visible. Make sure your cloth is clean and dry – otherwise, you may end up making the stain worse.
Once you’ve blotted away the bulk of the stain, pre-treat it with laundry detergent. Simply rub a tiny amount of detergent onto the stain, making sure to cover all stained areas. Allow the detergent to sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
Fill a bowl or sink with hot water, making sure that the water is not boiling hot as this could damage the wool. Once the water is ready, submerge your wool item and allow it to soak for at least 30 minutes. The hot water should help to break down the marker stain, making it easier to remove during wash.
Once your wool has finished soaking, transfer it to your washing machine and launder it using cold water and a mild detergent. If the stain has not yet been removed after the initial wash cycle, repeat the process.
Once the washing cycle is complete, hang your wool item outside to dry. Avoid placing the item in direct sunlight, as this could cause discoloration of the fabric. Once the item is completely dry, inspect it for any remaining marker stains. If stain is still visible, repeat steps 2-4 until it is completely removed.
