Marker stains can be a hassle to clean, especially when they’re on delicate fabrics such as wedges. But with proper guidance, they don't have to be an unsightly mess. Cleaning marker stains on wedges is a process that requires patience and right cleaning supplies.

Things You'll Need

  • Cleaning solvent (i.e. rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover)
  • White cloth or paper towel
  • Clean damp rag
  • Laundry detergent

Steps to Clean the Stain

  1. Check the label for care instructions on the wedge. If the fabric's cleaning instructions allow for it, apply a small amount of cleaning solvent directly onto the stain and gently dab it with a clean white cloth or paper towel.
  2. Work in an inconspicuous area of the wedge to test the cleaning solvent’s effectiveness before applying it to entire stain.
  3. If the solvent works, gently dab the stain with the clean white cloth or paper towel to remove the marker. Move in one direction, gradually moving towards its center. This will help keep the stain from spreading.
  4. Continue applying the cleaning solvent and dabbing stain until it's gone.
  5. If the cleaning solvent is not effective, mix laundry detergent with warm water and apply it to the stain with a clean damp rag. Work from the outside of the stain towards its center to avoid spreading.
  6. Continue to apply the detergent solution and dab the stain until it's removed.
  7. Let wedge air-dry after cleaning.

Tips for Best Results

  • Always test the cleaning solution in an inconspicuous area of the wedge first.
  • Be sure to use a detergent that is safe for the fabric of wedge.
  • Avoid using a scrubbing motion as this may cause the stain to spread.
