Accidents happen! But you don’t have to panic when a marker leaves a stain on your uniform. Whether it’s a permanent marker, Sharpie or washable marker, there are some clever ways to remove marker stains. Here’s a guide to help you out.
Step 1: Dab Using a Damp Cloth
If possible, start by dabbing stain with a damp cloth as soon as possible after it occurs. Make sure that the cloth is slightly damp and not wet, as this could spread the stain much further. Keep dabbing gently until stain fades away or lightens.
Step 2: Apply Dish Soap
If cloth isn't successful, then it's time to use a little dish soap. First, use cold water to rinse the area with a damp cloth. Then, using your fingers, apply a few drops of dish soap directly onto the stain. You should see a difference right away. After a few minutes, rinse the spot with cold water again.
Step 3: Rubbing Alcohol
If stain remains visible even after using dish soap, try rubbing alcohol. Pour the rubbing alcohol onto a piece of cloth and gently rub the stain until it fades away. For heavier stains, you may need to repeat this step several times. Once the stain has gone, rinse the area with cold water again.
Step 4: Use Ammonia
If all else fails, try ammonia. Just like the previous steps, pour a small amount of ammonia onto a cloth and use it to rub the stain. This should help to loosen it up and allow it to be washed away. Be sure to rinse the area with cold water once finished, and avoid using too much ammonia as it could damage the fabric.
