Before you start cleaning, you’ll need a few supplies:
The first step is to blot the stain. Take a damp cloth and press it against the stained area. The goal is to remove as much of the marker as possible without smearing it more. Blot the area until you don’t see any more marker coming out.
Next, apply liquid laundry detergent or a specialized stain remover directly onto the affected area. Let it sit for five minutes so that it has time to penetrate the stain.
After five minutes, take a sponge or soft cloth and use soap and water to scrub the stained area. Be sure to work in a circular motion as you clean. This will help break up stain and lift it away from fabric.
Once you’ve finished scrubbing, use a dry cloth to blot the area and absorb the excess moisture. Don’t rub or scrub the area anymore; this could cause the stain to spread even further.
Rinse the area with cold water to help remove any residual dirt or detergent. Once you’ve done this, blot the area again with a dry cloth to absorb any remaining moisture.
If the stain still isn’t budging, try applying some white vinegar directly to the affected area. Gently rub the area with the vinegar and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, rinse the area with cold water and blot it dry with a cloth.
When you’re finished, lay the shirt flat on a towel and allow it to air dry completely. Once the shirt is completely dry, check to make sure the stain is gone. If it’s not, repeat steps 1-6 until stain is completely gone.
