When a permanent marker stain lands on your tank top, it can be daunting trying to figure out how to remove it. The good news is that permanent markers are actually water based, meaning that they're relatively easy to clean with household items. The following steps will help you banish the stain from your tank top in no time.

What You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • An old toothbrush or rag
  • Dish detergent
  • A washing machine

Instructions

  1. Mix equal parts white vinegar and baking soda together until you create a paste.
  2. Using an old toothbrush or a rag, gently rub the paste into stained area for about 2 minutes.
  3. Allow the mixture to sit on fabric for 5 minutes, then rinse the area with cold water.
  4. If stain remains, repeat steps 1-3, then apply a bit of dish detergent to the stained area and rub it in, let it sit for 10 minutes and rinse.
  5. Put your tank top on the normal cycle in the washing machine.

Tips

  • Make sure to use cold water when rinsing, as hot water will cause marker ink to set and become more difficult to remove.
  • When laundering, use a non-bleach detergent; chlorine bleach can cause permanent damage to colored fabrics.
