Got marker stains on your favorite t-shirt? Whether it be felt tips, permanent markers or even washable markers, key is to act quickly to prevent the stains from settling into the fabric. Here are our top tips on how to remove marker stains from t-shirts in no time.
The first step is to wet the cloth to ensure that the marker isn't able to sink further into the fibers. Using a lint-free cloth, lightly blot the area around stain with water. Avoid rubbing stain, as this could spread it further and make the stain harder to remove.
Once you have blotted the stain with water, it is time to add some detergent. Make sure to check the tag in your t-shirt for instructions on how to clean it safely and use a mild detergent. Mix the detergent with warm water to create a solution and then use a cloth or sponge to apply it over the stain.
Gently rub an eraser back and forth over the stain to help break it up. This may take several minutes of repeated efforts, but it is important not to scrub too hard or you risk damaging the fabric. If the eraser is not working, try using a nail file or fine grit sandpaper.
Dip a clean cloth or paper towels into rubbing alcohol and dab onto stain. Be careful not to rub as this can spread stain further. Let the rubbing alcohol sit for a few minutes and then check the stain to see if it has been removed.
If the stain is still there, you can repeat steps mentioned above until it is completely removed. Once the stain has disappeared, rinse the t-shirt in cold water to remove any residue. Finally, hang the t-shirt to air dry and make sure it is completely dry before putting it away.
