Using a clean cloth, blot the stained area of the skirt. Do not rub or scrub at stain, as this could cause it to spread and make it harder to remove. To absorb marker, place the cloth onto stain and press down firmly for a few seconds. Then, lift the cloth and discard it in a bin.
Once you've removed most of the marker, pre-treat the remaining stain with a laundry detergent. Be sure to use a product that is specifically designed for pre-treating clothes with stains. Apply a small amount of detergent directly onto stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. This will help to break down the marker and make it easier to remove.
Next, place skirt in a washing machine and set it on a gentle cycle. Select a cold water cycle as warm or hot water could cause stain to set into the fabric. After the washing cycle has finished, lay your skirt flat and let it air dry.
If stain has not come out completely, spot treat the area with a stain remover. There are many different types of stain removers on the market, so make sure you choose one that is safe for the fabric of your skirt. Once the stain remover has been applied, let it sit for 10-15 minutes before washing again.
If some of the marker is still visible after the first few steps, repeat them until stain is gone. Don't give up! With persistence and the right tools, you'll be able to remove marker stains from your favourite skirts in no time.
