Before you begin cleaning the stain, it is important to test the fabric for colorfastness. Dab a bit of the cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous patch of fabric and wait 24 hours to see if the cleaning solution causes any discoloration. If there is any color loss, stop cleaning the fabric and take it to a dry cleaner.
Using a damp cloth, gently blot the stain, moving outward from the center of the stain. Work slowly to avoid spreading the stain further. Do not scrub or rub the fabric as this may cause further damage.
Once area is damp, apply a bit of a non-bleach stain remover to the area. Be sure to follow the directions on bottle for the best results. Allow the stain remover to sit for about 10 minutes, then blot the area with a damp cloth until stain is removed.
Once the stain has been treated, place the fabric in a sink filled with cold water and a small amount of mild detergent. Let it soak for at least 15 minutes before removing it from the water and rinsing with clean water.
Once the fabric has been washed, hang it outdoors to dry. Once it is completely dry, use a lightweight iron on the reverse side to press out any remaining wrinkles.
