As a silk fabric, dupioni is made from the cocoons of two silkworms spun together to form a single thread. It’s known for its crisp texture and luxurious sheen. Because of its fineness, it's also highly susceptible to staining of all kinds, including ink or marker stains.
Start by gently blotting the stained area with an absorbent cloth. Do not rub or scrub as this could damage delicate fabric. Rinse the absorbent cloth, then continue to blot stained area.
Mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar. Dab a few drops of the solution onto the stained area with a cotton swab. Allow the solution to sit for several minutes before continuing.
Next, apply an appropriate dish detergent directly to the stain. Let the detergent soak for at least 15 minutes before proceeding.
Gently scrub the stained area with a soft brush. Rinse the fabric under cool running water until all traces of the cleaning products are gone. Pat fabric dry with an absorbent cloth.
If the stain still remains, press the area with a cool iron. Don’t move the iron around; just hold it in place for several seconds to help draw out the stain. Be sure the iron does not come into contact with fabric.
