Step One: Try Rubbing Alcohol or Nail Polish Remover

Start by applying some rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to the stained area. Make sure to use enough of the remover to fully saturate the affected area. Using a soft cloth, gently rub the area to loosen up the stain. If the color does not come out all at once, you may need to repeat this process a few times.

Step Two: Apply Dish Detergent

If the marker stain is still present on the silk fabric after using rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover, then you can try using an enzyme-based dish detergent. Start by diluting a teaspoon of the detergent in one cup of lukewarm water. Then, dip a clean cloth into the mixture and gently dab it onto the stained area. Wait 15 minutes and then rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Step Three: Wash the Silk Fabric

Once stain is no longer visible, you will want to wash the fabric to make sure all of the cleaning product is removed from the material. You can either hand wash or machine wash the item, depending on what is recommended by the fabric's care label. Once the item is washed, hang it up to air dry.

Additional Tips

  • When removing marker stains from silk fabric, always use a gentle approach – scrubbing too hard can actually cause further damage to fabric.
  • Test any cleaning product before applying it to the entire stain.
  • For lightweight silk fabrics, you can also try spot-cleaning with a bit of hydrogen peroxide.
