No matter how careful you are in life, accidents do happen. And, while we all strive to keep our treasured saris free from damage, sometimes the odd ink stain can occur, leaving us feeling embarrassed and frustrated.

But don’t lose hope! There are various methods available for removing marker stains from a sari without causing any further damage. Depending on the extent of the stain, the following tips should help to restore your sari to its former glory.

What You Will Need

  • Nail polish remover (without acetone)
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Spoonful of liquid dishwasher detergent
  • Cup of warm water
  • Clean cloth

Directions

  1. Mix together one part nail polish remover with two parts hydrogen peroxide.
  2. Dip a clean cloth in this solution and rub it gently over the affected area. Do not rub too vigorously, as this could cause further damage to the sari.
  3. Mix one spoonful of liquid dishwasher detergent into a cup of warm water.
  4. Soak the stained area in this mixture for 10 minutes.
  5. Gently scrub the area with a clean cloth until the stain lifts.
  6. Rinse the sari under cold running water.
  7. Repeat steps 1 to 6 if the stain persists.
  8. Allow the sari to air dry.

Tips for Preventing Future Messes

  • Use a fabric pen instead of a permanent marker.
  • Cover the surface before beginning any craft project.
  • Keep the sari away from any potential sources of ink stains, such as highlighters and pens.
