Removing Marker Stains from Clothes
- Gather supplies: paper towels, rubbing alcohol, dish detergent and white vinegar.
- Start by blotting stain with a paper towel. Don’t scrub or rub the stain.
- Apply rubbing alcohol to stain. Blot with a clean paper towel until the area is saturated.
- Mix 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with one cup of warm water. Dip a clean cloth or sponge into mixture and sponge the stain
- Rinse the area with cool water and blot dry with a paper towel.
- If stain remains, combine 1/4 cup white vinegar with 1/4 cup water. Dab this solution on stain with a soft brush and rinse with cool water.
- After the stain is gone, launder the item as usual. Make sure the stain is completely gone before drying in the dryer. A heat setting could set the stain.
Additional Tips
- Always test any cleaning agents on an inconspicuous spot first to prevent discolouration.
- If the rubbing alcohol method doesn’t work, try hydrogen peroxide – but only on light fabric.
- Always start with the least abrasive method of stain removal first.
- Do not use fabric softener on marker-stained clothing as it may cause a permanent stain.
