Supplies You'll Need:

  • Hairdryer
  • Eraser or Graphite Pencil
  • Cleaning cloth
  • Dish soap
  • Shoe Polish

Step 1: Erase the Marker Stain

The first step is to use the eraser or graphite pencil to gently rub over the marker stain. Keep rubbing for several minutes, and marker should gradually fade. If the eraser does not work after several minutes of rubbing, try using a hairdryer instead.

Step 2: Clean the Leather

Once the marker stain has been removed, you can clean the leather with a damp cloth and a mild dish soap. Do not scrub too hard when cleaning, as this could damage the leather. Rinse the cloth and gently wipe the area again to remove any soap residue.

Step 3: Condition the Leather

Condition the leather with a shoe-specific conditioner. This will help to restore the natural oils in leather, which can be stripped away by the dish soap. Be sure to spread the conditioner evenly over the affected area.

Step 4: Rub in the Shoe Polish

Once the leather has been conditioned, use the shoe polish to rub remaining marker stains away. Use a circular motion to ensure that the stain is completely covered by the polish. Once the polish has been applied, allow it to set for several minutes before wiping it away with a damp cloth.

Step 5: Dry the Leather

After the polish has been wiped away, make sure to dry the leather with a soft cloth. Doing so will ensure that no additional moisture is allowed to stay on the leather.

Step 6: Apply Additional Shoe Polish

Finally, apply another coat of shoe polish to affected area. This will help to preserve color of the leather and will extend the life of your Oxford shoes.
