Getting marker stains out of your clothing can be tricky, especially if the stain has set in. But if you know the right tips and tricks, it's not impossible. All it takes is a few minutes of your time and a few supplies to get rid of annoying marker stains on outerwear.
What You'll Need
- Rubbing alcohol
- Cotton swab or cotton ball
- Dish soap
- Laundry detergent
Steps to Remove the Stain
- Start by testing a small area of clothing for colorfastness, to make sure the rubbing alcohol does not cause discoloration. Dab a bit of rubbing alcohol on an inconspicuous area and make sure it does not change the color of the fabric.
- Once you've tested it and determined it's safe, saturate a cotton swab or cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and dab it into the marker stain.
- Let the stain soak for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse off the area with cold water.
- If the marker stain remains, mix together a solution of one tablespoon of dish soap and one cup of warm water, then use a clean cloth to blot stain with the detergent mixture.
- Once stain has been thoroughly blotted with the soapy solution, rinse it off with cold water. Repeat as needed until the stain has been completely removed.
- If the stain still remains after all these steps, apply laundry detergent directly to the stain and use a toothbrush to scrub it. Then, place the clothing item in a wash cycle with laundry detergent and cold water.
