Step 1: Soak Swimsuit in Cold Water and Detergent

First, make sure to rinse off the stain with cold water as soon as possible. Then, mix a solution of cold water and detergent before submerging your swimsuit in it. Allow the swimsuit to soak for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with cold water.

Step 2: Apply Rubbing Alcohol or Vinegar

If the stain remains after the initial soak, apply rubbing alcohol or vinegar directly to stain and scrub with a soft-bristled brush. Rinse well with cold water.

Step 3: Use a Stain Remover

If the stain persists, try using a stain remover. Make sure that the product is suitable for use on delicate fabrics; many laundry detergents and fabric softeners contain a color-safe bleach that may be used on one-piece swimsuits.

Step 4: Wash and Air-Dry

Finally, wash swimsuit with a mild detergent on the gentle cycle. After washing, hang the swimsuit up to air-dry.

Addendum: Additional Tips

  • Always test any product on an inconspicuous area of swimsuit before applying it directly to the stained area.
  • In some cases, a dry cleaner may be able to remove stubborn marker stains.
  • To prevent marker staining altogether, keep a supply of washable markers around.
