Jacquard fabric is often chosen for its beauty and durability, but even strong materials such as these can be tarnished by accidental spills, particularly those of markers. Whether you’ve got a fresh stain or an old one, removal can seem daunting — but it doesn’t have to be.

Follow these steps to get those marker stains out of jacquard fabrics for good:

  1. Check the clothing tag for washing instructions. If the jacquard fabric item can be machine-washed, proceed to the next step. If not, you will have to clean the stain by hand.
  2. Take the item to the nearest sink or basin and fill it with cold water. Add two tablespoons of distilled white vinegar and let the garment soak for 20 minutes.
  3. After the 20 minutes is up, take the item out and rub a small amount of laundry detergent (preferably one that is free of bleach and alkalis) onto the stained area. Work the detergent into the fabric using your fingers.
  4. Rinse the detergent off with cold water and check the clothing tag for drying instructions.
  5. If the item is machine-washable, set the machine to the coldest setting available and dry it according to the instructions on the tag. If the item must be cleaned by hand, wring the item out gently and lay it flat on a towel until it’s completely dry.

By using these steps, you should be able to successfully remove marker stains from jaquard fabrics. Of course, if the stain persists after cleaning, you may need to take the item to a professional cleaner.
