Removing Marker Stains from a Polyester Jacket

  1. Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl.
  2. Dip a soft cloth into the vinegar solution.
  3. Gently rub the stain until it starts to fade away.
  4. Let vinegar solution penetrate the stain for a few minutes.
  5. Rinse stain with cold water.
  6. Sprinkle a bit of baking soda over the stain and let it sit overnight.
  7. Vacuum the baking soda off the jacket in the morning.

Removing Marker Stains from a Cotton Jacket

  1. Mix a solution of one part dish soap and one part white vinegar in a bowl.
  2. Blot the stain with a soft cloth that has been dipped into the solution.
  3. Keep blotting until stain begins to fade away.
  4. Mix a solution of one part bleach and four parts water in a separate bowl.
  5. Use a second cloth and sponge the bleach mixture onto the stained area.
  6. Soak stain with the bleach mixture for 5-10 minutes.
  7. Rinse the stain with cold water.
  8. Sprinkle a bit of baking soda over the stain and let it sit overnight.
  9. Vacuum up the baking soda in the morning.

Tips for Preventing Future Marker Stains

  • Always use fabric markers designed for fabrics.
  • Test the marker on a hidden area of jacket before using it.
  • Keep sharpies away from children.
  • Wash the jacket immediately after using a marker on it.
