Children's art projects or office supplies can end up causing permanent stains on purses or handbags. Whether it's a cap left off a highlighter, or an ink pen that gets in the wrong hands, it can be tough to eradicate the problem once it appears. Fortunately, there are a few tricks you can use to remove the stain and restore your handbag.

Using Nail Polish Remover

One of the easiest ways to remove marker stains is by using nail polish remover. Simply pour a small amount onto a microfiber cloth, and gently dab the affected area. Allow the remover to sit for several minutes, and then carefully blot the area with a damp cloth. Be sure to not over-saturate the material or you could end up making the stain worse. Repeat this as many times as necessary to completely remove the stain.

Using Rubbing Alcohol

If nail polish remover doesn't seem to do the trick, try using rubbing alcohol instead. Apply the alcohol directly to the marker stain with a cotton ball or a cloth and rub it in. Once you've worked the spot thoroughly, use a damp cloth to rinse away the liquid. As with the nail polish remover, be careful not to over-saturate the material.

Using Dish Soap

Another option is to make a paste out of dish soap and baking soda, which can help to lift out stain. Mix together equal parts of both ingredients in a bowl, applying the mixture directly to the stain with a toothbrush. Work it into fabric using a circular motion and then leave it alone to dry. When it's done, brush away any residue with a soft bristled brush, and then rinse area with a damp cloth.

Using White Vinegar

Vinegar is another great option for removing marker stains. Simply apply white vinegar to the stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Then, scrub the area with a toothbrush and rinse with a damp cloth. For an extra boost, mix equal parts vinegar and water and apply to the stained area with a cloth. It's best to let the solution sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing away with clean water.
