Using a plastic knife or butter knife, begin scraping away any excess marker from the flip flop. Be careful not to press too hard so that you don’t damage the material.
Spray a pretreatment solution, such as Zout, onto the stained area of the flip flop. Give it a few minutes to soak in before you move on to the next step.
Mix together laundry detergent, such as Tide, with a small amount of warm water until it creates a paste. Be sure to use a detergent free of bleach and fabric softeners.
Generously apply the detergent paste to the stain, making sure to cover entire area. Then, let it sit for several minutes to give it time to penetrate the stain.
Using a cloth or scrub brush, rub the paste gently into stained area until marker begins to come off. For tougher stains, let the paste sit for an extra 10-15 minutes before rubbing.
Use cold water to thoroughly rinse the detergent paste from the flip flop. Be sure to remove all of the paste before you move on to the next step.
Place the flip flops in the washing machine with a mild detergent and some white vinegar. Set the machine to a gentle cycle and wash the flip flops for 15-20 minutes.
Once the short cycle is complete, hang flip flops up to air dry. Don’t forget to check the stained area one more time to make sure marker is completely gone.
