What You'll Need

  • Fine-grit sandpaper or pumice stone
  • Commercial cleaner specifically designed for ink stains
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • A white cloth

Step 1: Scrub with a Pumice Stone or Sandpaper

Lightly scrub the stained area of the denim with a pumice stone or fine-grit sandpaper. This will help remove some of the excess ink. Do not scrub too vigorously, as this could cause the denim fabric to fray.

Step 2: Apply a Commercial Ink Stain Remover

Once you've removed as much of ink as possible with the stone or sandpaper, it's time to apply a commercial cleaner specifically designed to remove ink stains. Follow manufacturer's instructions and make sure to test the product in an inconspicuous area before applying it to the stained area.

Step 3: Dab with Rubbing Alcohol

If the stain is still visible after applying the commercial cleaner, use a white cloth to lightly dab rubbing alcohol onto the stained area. Be sure to use a dabbing motion, and not a wiping motion, to avoid fraying the fabric.

Step 4: Rinse and Hang Dry

Once the stain has been removed, rinse the denim with cold water. Then hang up the jeans to air dry away from direct sunlight, which can cause fading.
