Use a lint-free cloth to blot up as much of the excess marker as possible before beginning any cleaning process. Start from the outside and work your way in. Don't scrub or rub, as this may move the stain around.
For stubborn marker stains, try soaking the stained area in hot water for 10-15 minutes. Hot water will help break down the marker pigment. After soaking, rinse off the area with cold water.
Mix together a cleaning solution made of one part dishwashing liquid, one part white vinegar, and two parts cold water. Use a clean cloth to apply a generous amount of the mixture to the affected area. Gently work in the solution using circular motions. Rinse the area off with clean water.
For tougher stains that refuse to come out, try gently rubbing the affected area with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth. As with the other steps, be sure to start from the outside and work your way in. Rinse off the area with cold water.
After working at the stain with the above methods, it's a good idea to wash the garment as usual, either by hand or in the washing machine. This will ensure all traces of the marker are removed.
Finally, hang the garment up to dry. Do not put it in the dryer, as this could set the stain and make it permanent.
By following above steps, you should be able to easily remove marker stains from your Dashiki. With a bit of patience and the right method, you can keep your favorite Dashiki looking like new for years to come.
