When you’re dealing with marker stains on cotton, the key is to act fast. The longer the stain is allowed to sit, harder it will be to remove, so your best bet is to tackle stain as soon as it appears. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  • Mix equal parts white vinegar and lukewarm water in a small bowl.
  • Gently blot the stain using a soft cloth using the solution.
  • Once the stain is dampened and loosened, use a bit of laundry detergent mixed with warm water to work the stain out.
  • Keep blotting until stain begins to fade and eventually disappears.
  • Once the stain is gone, rinse the area with fresh warm water.
  • Finally, let the fabric dry or toss the item in the dryer.

In some cases, first two steps might not be enough to remove stain. If that’s the case, you can apply a few drops of rubbing alcohol onto the stained area. Then, dip a toothbrush into same mixture of detergent, vinegar and water and lightly scrub the stain. Finally, rinse the area with fresh water, let it dry and you’ll be good to go!

By following these simple steps, you’ll have your favorite cotton items looking as good as new. Good luck!
