What You Need
- Clean, soft cloth
- Invisible tape
- Damp cloth
- Leather cleaner
Steps
- Test an area of your bag with leather cleaner to be sure it won’t discolor the leather. To do this, lightly dampen a clean cloth and apply a small amount of leather cleaner onto a corner of the bag that’s out of sight.
- Gently rub the cleaner into the leather, wipe it off with a damp cloth, then allow it to air-dry. If there’s no discoloration, move on to next step.
- Remove any excess ink from the surface of the leather by dabbing the stain with a cloth or sponge moistened with clean water. Don’t rub or scrub the stain; this can spread the ink.
- Apply a small amount of leather cleaner to stained area and gently blot it with a damp cloth. Continue until all of visible ink is gone.
- Stop if the stain won’t budge any further. Make sure to dry area thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth.
- If the stain remains, try using invisible tape to lift the ink from leather. Cut a piece of tape and press it gently onto the stained area. Peel the tape off in one motion, repeating the process until you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible.
- Finally, treat the area with leather cleaner and buff it to a shine with a cloth.
Conclusion
Cleaning marker stains from Coach bags can be tricky, but with the right supplies and methodology, you can restore your bag to its original glory. Remember to always test a spot with the leather cleaner first to ensure your bag doesn’t suffer any discoloration due to the cleaning agent.
