Removing Dried Ink

If the ink has already dried on your barrette, you'll need to try one of methods below.

  • Take an old toothbrush and dip it in rubbing alcohol. Gently scrub stained area with the damp toothbrush until the stain starts to come off.
  • Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water onto a cloth and wipe stained barrette. If stain still won't come off, rub some baking soda into the stain and then wipe away with a damp cloth.
  • Make a paste out of baking soda and water and apply it to the stained area. Let it sit for 20 minutes then brush it off of the surface. Then, dip a cloth in warm, soapy water and wipe away remaining paste.

Preventing Future Stains

To help prevent future stains, be sure to store your markers away from your barrettes. Also, remember to keep the markers capped at all times when you're not using them.
