Removing Water-Based Marker Stains
- Start by using dishwashing liquid and water to create a sudsy mixture. Apply the mixture to the stained area and use a soft cloth to rub gently.
- Do not scrub or apply too much pressure, as this will likely damage delicate fabric.
- Once the stain has been worked away, rinse off the soapy water with a damp cloth and cold water.
- If the stain is still visible, repeat the process a few more times until all traces have vanished.
Removing Permanent Marker Stains
- Soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and dab the stained area. Make sure not to scrub too hard.
- Rinse off the solution with a damp cloth and cold water.
- In the event that some of the color remains, mix a teaspoon of baking soda with two teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide to form a paste.
- Rub the paste onto stained area, let is sit for around five minutes, and then scrub it off with a soft brush.
- Finish off by rinsing the area with a damp cloth and cold water.
Cleaning Tips
- Make sure to test your cleaning method on an inconspicuous part of the flat before tackling the stained area.
- Avoid using too much water when cleaning, as this may cause material to shrink or damage the fabric.
- Repeated washing and cleaning may cause fading or discoloration, so keep this in mind before scrubbing.
- Always air dry the flats after cleaning instead of machine drying.
