Things You'll Need

  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Borax
  • White cloth or paper towel
  • Ammonia
  • Hydrogen peroxide

Step 1: Using Liquid Laundry Detergent

It's always a good idea to start with the simplest method first. Take your liquid laundry detergent and pour some on the stained area. Rub it into the stain for a few seconds to help loosen the lipstick.

Step 2: Treat With White Vinegar

If the detergent method didn't do the trick, try using white vinegar next. Take some white vinegar and rub it onto the lipstick stain. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off with cool water.

Step 3: Scrub With Borax

If stain is still visible, you may need to use borax. Mix a tablespoon of borax with several drops of water to form a paste. Rub the paste onto the stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. After that, rinse it with warm water.

Step 4: Use Ammonia or Hydrogen Peroxide

If none of the other methods worked, ammonia and hydrogen peroxide are your last resort. Mix equal parts of each and apply to the stain. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes before rinsing off with cool water. Be sure to follow the directions carefully as these substances are strong.

Tips

  • Always test any cleaning agent on a hidden part of the fabric before using it.
  • Be sure to immediately treat the stain when you notice it. The longer you wait, harder it will be to remove.
  • Read and follow all instructions carefully when using any cleaning agents.
