Pre-Treatment Tips

  • Check cleaning instructions on your garment’s label before doing any stain removal. This will help ensure that you use most effective method for the fabric.
  • Treat the stain as soon as possible to prevent it from setting.
  • For best results, place an absorbent white towel underneath stain to absorb excess lipstick pigment and oil.

Removing Lipstick Stains from Traditional Dress

  • Start by dabbing the stain with a cotton ball dampened with cold water. Avoid scrubbing, as this can spread the lipstick.
  • Rinse the fabric in cold water and blot it dry with a clean white towel.
  • If the stain remains, mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water to create a stain remover.
  • Apply mixture directly to the affected area and let sit for 15 minutes.
  • Soak the fabric in cool water for an additional 15 minutes before washing.
  • Wash the fabric normally, using cold water and your regular detergent.
  • Air dry the fabric or dry on the lowest heat setting.

Additional Stain Removal Tips

  • If the stain remains after washing, spray the fabric with hairspray and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water and re-wash.
  • For heavier stains, try dabbing the fabric with rubbing alcohol before rinsing with cold water and re-washing.
