If the lipstick stain on your tie is fresh, the first step is to blot the spot as much as possible with a paper towel or a cloth that’s free of any detergent residues. You should be careful not to rub the stain too hard, as this can cause it to spread.
Now that you’ve blotted the stain, you’ll need to create a cleaning solution. There are two options: you can either mix a teaspoon of white vinegar with two teaspoons of water, or you can make a paste of baking soda and water. Once you’ve created your cleaning solution, apply it to the stain with a damp cloth.
The next step is to rinse stain with cold water. You can do this by pouring water directly onto the tie, or by washing the tie in a sink of cool water. After rinsing the tie, you should hang it up to dry completely – you don’t want to iron tie while it’s still wet.
Once tie is dry, you can use a dry-cleaning solvent to remove any remaining stains. Be sure to dab the solvent onto tie instead of rubbing it, and allow it to sit for several minutes before rinsing it off. If desired, you can also apply a fabric-safe stain remover to the tie after cleaning.
Now that you know how to easily remove lipstick from a tie, you’ll never have to worry about making a fashion faux pas again! With just a few simple steps, you can have your tie looking like new in no time.
