Gently blot the stain with a soft cloth or rag to soak up as much of lipstick as possible. Do not rub fabric, as this could damage or spread the stain.
Mix together equal parts of white distilled vinegar and water in a bowl. If the stain is very stubborn you may want to add a bit of baking soda to solution as well.
Using a soft cloth or rag, dip it into the cleaning solution. Gently dab the solution onto the stain, allowing it to sit for a few minutes.
Rinse the tartan with cold water, then pat it dry with a towel. Check that the stain has been completely removed before putting the tartan back into use.
