It's no fun to discover lipstick stains on your favorite suit. But don't worry, there are some simple steps you can take to get those stains out without ruining the fabric.
Using edge of a butter knife or other blunt object, gently scrape away as much of the excess lipstick as possible. Use a light touch and test the fabric you are scraping on a hidden area first, such as the inside lining, to ensure it won't damage the fabric.
Make a solution of warm water and an enzyme-based detergent. Regular detergent is too harsh for delicate fabrics, so avoid using this if possible. Instead, try a product like Woolite, which is designed to be gentle on delicate fabric.
Soak the stain with the solution for at least 10 minutes, but no longer than 30 minutes. This will give enzymes in the detergent enough time to work on the stain, but not too long that it will cause the material to weaken. Do not scrub the stain while soaking it as this can cause damage to the fibers.
After soaking garment, wash according to the instructions on the fabric label. For most suits, hand washing is preferred, as machine washing can sometimes cause damage to the material. Use cold water and let garment air dry.
These simple steps can help remove lipstick stains from your suit without damaging the fabric. Remember to always test on a hidden area before beginning and follow instructions on your fabric label to ensure the best results.
