If you catch the stain as soon as possible, you can begin by soaking socks in cold water right away. If the stain is already set in, use warm water instead. Allow the socks to soak for about 20 minutes before moving on to the next step.
Using a laundry detergent designed for pre-treating stained fabrics, apply the detergent directly to stained area. Allow the detergent to sit for at least 10 minutes. During this time, the ingredients in the detergent will help to break down the lipstick.
Mix together equal parts salt, vinegar, and Borax powder to make a cleaning solution. Dip a toothbrush into the solution and gently scrub the stained area. Scrub until the stain begins to lift off the fabric.
Rinse the socks with cool water to remove the cleaning solution. Now that the stain has been pre-treated and scrubbed, it should come out during the regular laundering cycle. Place the socks in the washing machine and proceed as usual, using the hottest water recommended on the care label.
Removing lipstick stains from socks doesn't have to be difficult. With the right materials and a little bit of elbow grease, you can easily get rid of those unsightly marks. So, don't let lipstick stains ruin your day – follow these steps and you'll have your socks looking good as new.
