What You Will Need

  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Clean cloth or paper towels
  • Borax
  • Scrub brush
  • Rubbing alcohol

Step One: Identify the Stain

Before you begin, it is important to identify the type of lipstick stain you are dealing with. This will determine the best method for removing the stain from your sleep pants.

Step Two: Preparing the Area

Once you have identified the stain, you will want to prepare the area. Start by removing any excess lipstick residue from fabric. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to gently dab away the excess. Be sure not to rub the stain, as this could cause it to spread.

Step Three: Pre-treat the Stain with Detergent

You will now need to pre-treat the stain with a liquid laundry detergent. Apply a generous amount of detergent directly to the stain, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step Four: Scrub the Stain with a Scrub Brush

Once the pre-treating is done, you will need to scrub the stain with a scrub brush. Use some elbow grease to work the detergent into fabric. After a few minutes, rinse fabric with cold water.

Step Five: Create a Baking Soda + Vinegar Paste

If stain is still present after rinsing, you will need to create a baking soda and white vinegar paste. Mix equal parts of each, and apply it to the stained area. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then scrub the paste into the fabric.

Step Six: Rinse Fabric

Once you have finished scrubbing the paste into the fabric, rinse the area with cold water. Repeat this step until the fabric no longer has any residue from the baking soda and vinegar paste.

Step Seven: Wash the Fabric

It's time to wash fabric! Use an appropriate laundry detergent, such as a low sudsing detergent for delicate fabrics, and wash according to garment instructions. If necessary, add a stain remover such as Borax or rubbing alcohol.

Step Eight: Dry the Fabric

Once you have washed the fabric, it is important to dry it immediately. Place the fabric in the dryer on a low heat setting, and remove from dryer as soon as it is done. This will help prevent the stain from setting into fabric.
