What You'll Need

  • Bucket filled with lukewarm water
  • Gentle detergent
  • Clean cloths for blotting
  • Stain remover of choice (i.e. white vinegar, club soda)

Step 1: Soak Dress

Start by filling a bucket with lukewarm water. Put your shift dress in and let it soak for about 15 minutes. This will help loosen up the stain and make it easier to remove.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

When the stain is still wet, apply a gentle detergent directly to it and scrub with a clean cloth. This will help break down the lipstick and make it easier to remove.

Step 3: Blot the Stain

Once the pre-treatment is complete, take a clean cloth and gently press cloth onto the stain. This will absorb some of the lipstick and help lighten the stain.

Step 4: Apply Stain Remover

Take the stain remover of your choice (white vinegar or club soda work great) and apply it directly to the stain. Let it sit for a few minutes before blotting with a clean cloth. Repeat this process until the stain has been removed.

Step 5: Rinse and Dry

Once stain is gone, rinse the dress off and let it air dry. If necessary, repeat steps 1-4 until all of the lipstick has been removed.

Conclusion

With a few simple steps, you can easily remove lipstick stains from your shift dress and restore it back to its original beauty. Just remember to always use a gentle detergent and test stain remover on a small, hidden area first.
