The best way to start cleaning any stain off of shearling is to first gently brush the affected area. You can use a soft brush to remove any loose dirt or debris before starting the cleaning process. Shearling should never be washed in a washing machine, so using a damp cloth or sponge with lukewarm water will be your safest option. You'll want to use mild soap and lightly dab the stained area until lipstick stain is removed.
If the cloth and mild soap isn't doing the trick, you can try using a spot cleaner specifically designed for shearling. This spot cleaner should be applied directly to the stain and gently scrubbed in before removing with a damp cloth. It's important not to scrub too harshly, as this can ruin the texture of the shearling.
If the stain remains after trying the methods above, you can try other stain removal techniques. Rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide mixed with a little dish soap can be dabbed onto the stain and allowed to sit for a few minutes before wiped clean with a damp cloth. Be sure to spot test any chemicals on an inconspicuous area of the shearling before applying them to stain.
The best way to avoid lipstick stains on shearling clothing is to take preventative measures. Accidents can always happen, but you can make it easier by keeping your shearling garment away from food and beverages. If you know lipstick may be a risk, you can also use a waterproof circle of tissue around your lips that can act as a barrier to protect your shearling.
