We've all been there—after a long day of work, we take off our scrubs and notice a lipstick stain that wasn't there before. Getting rid of lipstick stains on medical uniforms can be a challenge, but it doesn't have to be an insurmountable one. With the right cleaning techniques, you can remove lipstick stains from your scrubs in no time. Here's what you need to know.

Removing Fresh Lipstick Stains

When it comes to getting rid of fresh lipstick stains on your scrubs, immediately blotting area with a paper towel or cloth is a must. This will absorb some of the excess product and help to reduce the stain's size. You don't want to rub area, as this could cause the lipstick to spread further.

After you've blotted stain, it's time to treat it further. Soak the area in cool water and a few drops of liquid detergent, then gently scrub the stain with a clean rag or toothbrush. After that, rinse the area with water and place the garment into the washing machine (don't forget to turn it inside out!). The heat from the washer should be enough to finish job, and you should have a fresh, lipstick-free scrub in no time.

Treating Older or Set-In Lipstick Stains

If you're dealing with an old, set-in lipstick stain, you may need to up the ante a bit. Start by soaking the stain in cool water and a few drops of enzyme laundry detergent for at least 30 minutes. After that, run the scrub through the washer (again, turn it inside out for best results). Once wash is complete, check on the stain. If it has lightened, repeat the process. If it hasn't, you may want to try a stain remover or a pre-treatment specifically designed for lipstick stains. Allow the solution to sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then run it through washer once more. With any luck, you'll have a pristine uniform in no time.

Tips for Avoiding Lipstick Stains in Future

The best way to keep your scrubs free from lipstick stains is to be proactive. Wear a thin barrier such as a bib when applying makeup, and be sure to check your lips before taking off your uniform. Keep in mind that even tinted lip balms and chapsticks can contain oils that can leave behind a stain, so apply them with care!
