Step 1: Act Quick

If you want to successfully remove a lipstick stain from your raincoat, you will need to act fast. As soon as you notice it, grab a paper towel – or any absorbent material like a cloth – and try to wipe off as much of the color as possible. However, don't rub too hard, as this could damage the fabric.

Step 2: Pretreat Stain

Once you've done step one, you can begin to pretreat your raincoat by applying a solution of warm water and laundry detergent or baking soda directly onto the stained area. Work the mixture into the fabric using a soft brush or an old toothbrush. Then, allow the solution to lighten the stain for about 10 minutes before rinsing it off.

Step 3: Wash the Raincoat

The next step is to actually launder your raincoat. Place clothing item in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and use warm water to prevent any further damage to fabric. For extra protection, add a color-safe, mild detergent specifically designed for delicate items. Wait until cycle has finished, then remove your raincoat from the washer and hang it to dry.

Step 4: Apply Stain Remover

If, after washing, stain persists, you can try to get rid of it by applying a specialized stain remover product directly to the affected area. These products contain powerful enzymes and surfactants that work to break down the stain molecules. Leave it on for at least five minutes, then rinse off with cold water.

Step 5: Pick a Spot Remover

Finally, if all else fails, you can use a spot remover specifically designed to remove tough stains from waterproof fabrics. This product typically comes with a small brush attached so you can apply it directly to stained area. As with the other methods, make sure to leave it on for the recommended time before running it under cold water.
