Most outerwear pieces are made of delicate fabrics which require special care when it comes to removing lipstick stains. To ensure that you don’t damage your clothing, take extra caution when following these steps.
Gently blot the stain with a clean cloth. Don’t rub or scrub the area as this will only further damage the fabric and spread the stain.
If stain is still visible after blotting, dampen a clean cloth or cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and dab it on the stained area. Do not pour rubbing alcohol directly onto the stain as this may damage the fabric.
Rinse the area with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Gently rub the fabric together to remove any excess lipstick residue. When finished, pat area with a clean cloth.
Once the stain has been removed, put the garment into the washing machine on the gentle cycle. If necessary, add a few drops of mild detergent to the load.
Once the garment has been washed, inspect it closely for any remaining lipstick stains. If any stains remain, repeat steps 1 through 4 until it has been completely removed.
Once all of the lipstick stains have been removed, put garment into the dryer on a low heat setting. Hang dry if the fabric cannot be machine dried.
When dealing with lipstick stains, timing is key. The quicker you act, the better chance you will have of successfully removing the stain. With a little bit of patience and the right cleaning techniques, you can breathe new life into your favorite outerwear!
