Step 1: Pre-Treat the Stain

Start by pre-treating the lipstick stain with a laundry pre-treatment. Follow directions on the package when applying the pre-treatment. If you don’t have a pre-treatment product, you can use a few drops of liquid detergent in warm water to soak the affected area. Leave the solution on the spot for 30 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

Step 2: Treat the Stain with Detergent

After you’ve pre-treated the spot, treat the area again with a mild detergent. Work the detergent into the fabric with a brush or an old toothbrush. Allow the detergent to remain on the spot for 30 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

Step 3: Sanitize the Stain with Alcohol

If the stain is still visible after the detergent treatment, wet a cloth with rubbing alcohol and dab the area with it. Let alcohol sit on the spot for 10-15 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. Repeat this process until stain has vanished.

Step 4: Wash Fabric

Once you’ve removed as much of the stain as possible, wash the fabric as usual. Using a gentle cycle and a mild detergent, wash the fabric separately from other items. Line dry the fabric or tumble dry on low heat.
