Marcella is an Italian cotton fabric with a silky, smooth finish. It is typically used for formal men's shirts, so when lipstick stains land on it, it can feel like the end of the world. Fortunately, some simple techniques can help get rid of lipstick stains on marcella fabric without damaging the material.
As soon as you notice a lipstick stain on your shirt, grab a clean white cloth and begin blotting the area to lift the pigment away from the fabric. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing, which could spread the stain. You can also use a dull knife or spoon to gently scrape any residue away from the fabric without damaging it. Be sure to move in one direction and never use pressure.
Once you’ve removed as much of the lipstick stain as possible with blotting and scraping, it’s time to pretreat stain with a commercial stain remover. Apply a generous amount of product directly to the affected area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Don’t rub or scrub stain while pretreating.
After letting the pretreatment sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes, wash the item in cold water. Use a mild laundry detergent and cycle the shirt through a gentle cycle. Once the cycle is complete, lay the shirt flat or air dry it.
If the stain is still visible after the first attempt, repeat steps 1-3 as necessary until stain is gone.
Removing lipstick stains from marcella fabric doesn’t have to be difficult. With these four steps, you can easily remove the stain without damaging the fabric. Just remember to blot, scrape, pretreat, and wash.
