Begin by quickly wiping away as much of the excess lipstick with a clean towel or cotton pad. Then, take a small bowl of plain warm water and add a few drops of an all-purpose household soap. Gently agitate the water and keep agitating until the water turns soapy and bubbly. Dunk your stained hair ties into the soapy water and swirl them around to create some bubbles.
Use a clean toothbrush to scrub away any remaining lipstick stain. Doing this will help to lift and break down the stain particles. The bristles of the brush should be soft enough to not damage the material of the hair tie. Scrub slowly and gently in a circular motion until the stain is completely removed.
Once you’ve scrubbed away the lipstick stain, you need to rinse the hair ties with cold water. This will help to remove any remaining soap and dirt from the hair ties. Rinse the hair ties one more time, just to make sure that all the soap residue has been washed away.
After rinsing the hair ties, let them air dry. After they’re completely dried, the stain should be gone! To speed up the process, you can also use a hairdryer or paper towels to help absorb the moisture. Once your hair ties are completely dry, you can use them again to hold your hair in place.
