Step 1: Blot Stain with a Clean, Dry Cloth

The first step in removing a lipstick stain is to blot the spot with a clean, dry cloth. This will help absorb some of the excess oil and lipstick that hasn’t yet dried into the fabric. Be sure to use gentle, dabbing motions so as not to spread out the stain more.

Step 2: Apply Stain Remover

Next, you'll need to apply a stain remover specifically designed for treating lipstick stains on fabrics. This can be a commercial product such as Shout or shout Color Catcher, or a homemade mixture of equal parts dish soap and hydrogen peroxide. Using a soft cloth, apply the stain remover directly to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes.

Step 3: Rinse

Once the stain remover has had a chance to work on the stain, rinse the area with cold water. You can do this directly in the sink or by using a spray bottle filled with cold water.

Step 4: Apply a Liquid Detergent

After rinsing area, apply a liquid detergent directly to stain. Be sure to follow the instructions for the detergent you are using, as some may need to be left on the fabric for a certain amount of time before being washed. After detergent has had a chance to work, rinse the spot again with cold water.

Step 5: Wash and Dry

Finally, wash the fabric according to the instructions on the care label. Do not put the fabric in dryer until you are sure that the stain is completely gone, as heat can set the stain and make it much harder to remove. Once you are sure the stain is gone, you can dry the fabric normally.
