The first step is to blot up as much of the excess lipstick as you can. Use a paper towel or washcloth, and try not to rub lipstick further into fabric. Keep blotting until no more of the stain transfers to the cloth.
Once you've blotted up as much of the lipstick as possible, it's time to start pre-treating the stain. Mix together a solution of two parts dish soap and one part cool water. You can apply the solution directly to the stain, or if you're dealing with a delicate fabric, you may want to put some of the solution in a spray bottle and spray it onto the stain. Leave it on for about five minutes.
After the pre-treating solution has had a chance to work, rinse the area with cool water to remove the soap. If possible, use a jet of water rather than just running it over the stain with your hands. Once it's been rinsed, press firmly with a dry cloth to remove any more of the excess moisture.
Now it's time for final cleaning step. Fill a sink or bucket with cool water and add a little bit of mild detergent to it. Put the stained article of clothing in the water and let it soak for 10-15 minutes. After that, you can take it out and launder as normal.
Once the item of clothing has been laundered, it's time to let it air dry. Hang it up and let it dry completely before wearing it or putting it away. This will help ensure that the lipstick stain has been completely removed.
